About Fr. David Poirier, SA
Fr. David Poirier SA became a member of the Friars of the Atonement in 1973 and was ordained in 1977.
Fr. David served as Ecumenical Officer for the Archdiocese of Halifax from 1994-2005. In 2002 he received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the Atlantic School of Theology, Halifax, Nova Scotia in recognition for his contributions during his years as Ecumenical Officer.
From 2005-2014, Fr. David served as the Ecumenical Officer in the Archdiocese of Vancouver and from 2005-2018 as pastor at St. Joseph the Worker parish in Richmond, BC.
Fr. David organizes the Annual Paul Wattson Lecture which features speakers on interreligious and ecumenical topics in memory of the Friars’ Founder. The Paul Wattson Lecture Halifax is co-sponsored by the Friars of the Atonement, the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax and St. Mary’s University, Halifax.
Since late 2019, Fr. David has served as Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation Promoter (JPIC) for the Friars. He currently resides at Graymoor and shares information, thoughts and resources for promoting peace and justice through his monthly reflection series – Contemplating Peace & Justice.
