The Friars were busy this summer building community and spreading our charism. Here are a few highlights.

August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption, the day we commemorate the Blessed Virgin Mary being raised body and soul into heaven. While it is not explicitly mentioned in Scripture, the Assumption is a belief that goes back to the earliest Christian Tradition of the Church.

Following his time at the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, Fr. Tom Orians, SA, traveled to Salem Township in Wyandot County, Ohio. There, he celebrated the 175th anniversary of his hometown parish, St. Joseph, which is now a historical community of faith.

People often talk with me about their difficulty with prayer. It seems to be a reoccurring problem at any age. I cannot remember all the details or the characters but in Eugene, O’Neal‘s play, “The Great God Brown”, we see a man on his deathbed and he is frightened. At his side is his mother and she speaks to him as though he was still a child.

From June 24 to July 12, 2024, the Centro Pro Unione — a ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement — held the annual Summer Course in Rome on unity between members of different faith traditions.

The Holy Father offers a special prayer intention every month. In August, Pope Francis asks all Catholics to pray for political leaders around the world.

More than 80 years in the making, the recent National Eucharistic Congress drew about 55,000 Catholics to Indianapolis to welcome Jesus and seek repentance and joy in His presence.

The beginning of June marked the start of our Summer Concert Series, which runs until September at St. Anthony Shrine. As part of our 125th anniversary celebration, this series is a wonderful way to connect with our Friars, Sisters, staff, and attendees on beautiful summer evenings!
