It is with a profound sense of gratitude that the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement celebrate the Diamond Jubilees of two Friars: Fr. Arthur Gouthro, SA, and Br. Theodore Novak, SA. These men have truly been an inspiration in the past 60 years as Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. The Friars also mark the Silver Jubilee, 25 years, of Fr. Edward Boes, SA.
Mr. Jair Jacome joined the Friars of the Atonement as the new Vocation Coordinator in May 2019. Jair attended Seton Hall University and is a graduate of Holy Apostles College and Seminary. He has served as a missionary with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal at the St. Anthony Shelter for Renewal in Bronx, NY. Fluent in Spanish and English, Jair has directed formation programs and conducted local (Bronx, Philadelphia) and international missions (Haiti, Honduras, Peru.) He has experience in organizing Catholic parish youth programs.
Dr. Aaron Hollander, Ph.D. has joined the staff as an Associate Director. Dr. Hollander has his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School and a Master's degree from the Irish School of Ecumenics.
Franciscan Friars of the Atonement from all over the world gathered together in Maryland for the 18th General Chapter Meeting. This meeting takes place every five years and lasts for ten days. During this time of reflection and prayer, the Friars elect new councilors to serve as the Board of Directors for the Friars worldwide throughout their five-year term.
On Friday, October 4th, the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement will hold their 26th Annual Sharing Hope Celebration Dinner at the Pierre Hotel in New York City, where over two hundred and fifty guests will be in attendance.
We are excited to welcome three collegiate men—Kevin Marston, Dave Sebastian and Dalton LaTessa—to discern the call to religious life as participants in Franciscan for the Summer. Franciscan for the Summer is an eight-week immersion from mid-June to mid-August for college-aged men to discern religious life with the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement and participate in one of their ministries.
