How will you ring in the New Year this year? Most people have their own annual traditions, and I’m sure you have yours. Why not shake up your traditions a bit this year and do something truly memorable—and potentially life-changing! From December 29, 2019 until January 11, 2020, the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement are leading a mission trip to Puerto Rico. And we want you to come with us!
1. You’re Discerning You’re already discerning a vocation to the religious life, and you’ve probably spent some time with other Orders. That’s great! But did you know that the best way to discern your vocation is to get out there and serve others? As the popular prayer attributed to St. Francis says, “It is in giving that we receive.”
2. You’re Fascinated by Other Cultures Be honest here. One of the reasons you’re drawn to going on a mission trip is because you love to travel, meet new people, and experience other cultures. That’s a good thing! Why not put that energy towards deeper vocational discernment in the process?
3. You Live to Serve You always find yourself in some sort of serving role—whether it’s bringing your family a drink of water at dinner time, volunteering to help a friend repaint his house, or mowing the lawn for the sweet old lady next door. Service is at the core of who you are. Wouldn’t you love to serve those in need in Puerto Rico too?
4. You Love to Share Your Faith Your faith has transformed your life in innumerable ways, and you just know that if others could encounter Christ the way you have, then our world would be a different place. Sharing your faith journey is an essential part of any mission trip.
